Student's Field Practice on Zoology Report  – 2022

2nd year students of specialty 6В05107 - "Biology" of the Department of General Biology and Genomics undergo summer field practice on zoology at the Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve.

Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Saryarka – Steppe and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan, and the Tengiz-Korgalzhyn Lake systems located there are one of the most important wetlands for migratory birds in Kazakhstan and throughout Asia. The reserve is located only 130 km south-west of Nur-Sultan and is famous for its wetland-steppe open spaces and diverse fauna. All this makes it an excellent place to conduct field practice on zoology.

Between the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian University and the Korgalzhyn State Natural Reserve, a cooperation agreement has been in force for several years. The territory of the reserve has all the necessary conditions for practice. Students live in cozy houses on the Karazhar cordon, located on the picturesque shore of Lake Sultankeldy.

Every day, students go on a tour of the reserve, where they observe many species of animals.

During excursions, students observe the appearance, behavior, ecological characteristics of animals of various taxonomic groups, and in addition, they collect various invertebrates, in particular insects, and after lunch identify their species.

As a result of summer educational field practice, students consolidate their knowledge of zoology, get acquainted with the unique nature and fauna of the Korgalzhyn reserve, collect collections of invertebrates, and also gain invaluable experience and get many vivid impressions.
