 Educational and methodical activity of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography

of L.N.Gumilev ENU

 

Training of specialists at the department is carried out in accordance with the classifier of areas of training with higher and postgraduate education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the following areas of training in higher education - bachelor's degree (6B05209–Geography, 6B01524 – Training of geography teachers, 6B05210-Hydrology), in postgraduate education master's degree (7M05213 - Geography / 7M01524 – "Training of geography teachers", 7M05210 – Hydrology), doctoral studies (8D05213- Geography) in kazakh and russian languages of instruction in a group of educational programs, including educational programs.

The department has all the educational and methodological documentation: State general education standard of education, educational programs, standard and working curricula of educational programs (specialties), schedule of the educational process, academic calendar, catalogs of elective disciplines. The teachers of the department pay special attention to the development of educational and methodological documentation. The provision of all disciplines of the working curriculum with an educational and methodological complex, the availability of educational and methodological complex of disciplines educational programs. In the 1st semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, the teaching staff of the department were prepared and implemented in the educational process of the educational and methodological complex of disciplines in 203 disciplines.

The teaching staff of the department on a regular basis annually publishes educational and methodological literature on educational training programs at the department. For the 2022-23 academic year, the following educational and methodological publications have been published in the open press:

Educational and methodological seminars are held at the department, within the framework of which the teaching staff of the department increase their methodological competence in the development, planning, organization and implementation of the educational process. In the first half of the 2022-2023 academic year, four educational and methodological seminars of the department were held:

1) Seminar "Development of educational and methodological complexes of disciplines". Lecturer - Aralbekova M.A.

2) Seminar "Methodological features of teaching hydrology" Lecturer - Tulegenov Sh.A.

3) Seminar "Application of GIS technology in teaching disciplines of the geographical cycle" lecturer-Zinabdin N. B.

4) Seminar "Adaptive and blended learning in geographical disciplines at the university" Lecturer – Saginov K.M.

Teaching staff of other FEN departments, the chairman of the UMS FEN, graduate students, undergraduates and doctoral students of the department are invited to conduct and participate in seminars, as well as specialists and scientists from the production sector and various organizations are involved as co-speakers. In particular, specialists from RSE "KAZHYDROMET" and RSE "Kazakhstan GaryshSapary" and secondary schools of Astana.  

The department has organized a "Mentoring School" within which the work of two pairs of "mentor-young teacher" is carried out: 1) Young teacher – Master Yerzhanova Nurliza Kiyakbayevna – mentor – Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Tulegenov Sherim Azhibekovich; 2) Young teacher – Master Shynybek Ayazhan Ulykbekkyzy – mentor – associate professor, Candidate of Geographical Sciences Shamshagul Ibragimovna Mashateva. Within the framework of the school of pedagogical excellence of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography, the professors of the department will hold seminars "Mentoring for young teachers".

In order to monitor and improve the methodological competence of the teaching staff of the department, open classes are held on a regular basis using active and innovative teaching methods and technologies.

Monitoring and evaluation of teaching and methodological activities of teachers according to the required criteria for conducting classes is carried out according to the approved schedule of mutual visits of teachers' classes. The reviews are recorded in the journal of mutual visits. The analysis of classes shows that their content fully corresponds to the working curricula of disciplines, and were conducted according to the schedule of classes.  The results of the analysis of the mutual attendance of teaching staff classes show that the department conducts active educational and methodological and scientific-methodical work on the integration of the educational process with the scientific and innovative activities of the department.Various problem-searching, research and design, integrated and adaptive teaching methods and technologies are actively used, which are aimed at activating the cognitive activity of students in the context of the implementation of an individual educational route of each student. The organization and management of educational, cognitive, scientific and methodological activities of students presuppose a special set of methodological and didactic developments for the modernization of educational resources using information and communication, geoinformation and Internet technologies in geographical education.A great emphasis is placed on the digitalization of the educational process and the development of students' independent learning and research skills within the framework of the introduction of a mixed learning model – digital educational resources, applications, software, Google resources (Google Earth), technologies and applications for visualization of geographical education, social networks and applications with geographical content and methodological resources are used, and tools.

The teaching staff of the department annually undergo advanced training at the university level, as well as at the national and international levels in relevant areas and topics of training in the implemented EP of the department.
