Career guidance work
The main purpose of the career guidance work of the Department "Physical and Economic Geography" of the L. N. Gumilev Eurasian National University is to familiarize graduates of secondary schools and vocational education organizations with the specialties of the department "Geography", "Hydrology" and "Geography teacher training" and is to guide graduates as much as possible. In general, educational programs at the department are carried out in the following specialties:
· Bachelor’s degree 6B05209 – Geography
Objective of the educational programme: Training of bachelors with fundamental geographical knowledge, knowledge in modern geography (geoinformatics, the basics of remote sensing) and able to apply acquired skills and abilities in scienceresearch and practice.
Degree: Bachelor of Natural Sciences in the educational program «6B05209 - Geography».
6B05210 – Hydrology
Purpose of the educational program: Training of competitive specialists with fundamental knowledge in the field of hydrology, Having an idea of new directions of modern engineering hydrology and able to apply the acquired knowledge in professional hydrological activity.
Degree: Bachelor of Natural Sciences in the educational program "6B05210 - Hydrology".
6B01524 - Training of geography teachers
Purpose of the educational program: Training of geography teachers who have theoretical knowledge and applied skills in the field of geography, able to apply modern educational technologies for the organization of the educational process in the school.
Degree: Bachelor of Pedagogy in the educational program «6B01524 - Training of teachers of geography».
· Master’s degree 7M05213 – Geography
Purpose of the educational program: The purpose of the program is to prepare highly qualified researchers for scientific institutions and universities in the field of geography and geoecology. The program is aimed at training specialists who are ready to: carry out professional activities in accordance with his profession related to the solution of research tasks in the field of geography and geoecology; participate in the organization and conduct of theoretical-ecologicalmethodological, field and computational studies using modern geographic information systems; to improve and develop methodology, new methods and technologies of geographical and geoecological studies, normative and methodological documents in the field of geographical sciences.
Degree: Master of natural sciences in the educational program «7M05213 - Geography».
· 7M05210 – Hydrology
Purpose of the educational program: Training of competitive personnel capable of organizing work in the hydrological, water management and environmental direction, that will provide the possibility of their maximum employment in the specialty and achieve high quality postgraduate independent research and scientific-pedagogical professional activity.
Degree: Master of Natural Sciences in the educational program «7M05210 - Hydrology».
7M01524 - Training of geography teachers
The purpose of the educational program: Preparation of highly qualified competitive masters to research work and pedagogical activity, owning fundamental and applied knowledge and methods of teaching geography.
Degree: Master of Natural Sciences in the educational program «7M01524 - Training of teachers of geography».
· Doctoral studies 8D05213 – Geography
The purpose of the educational program: The purpose of the program is to train highly qualified researchers for Kazakhstan and international scientific institutions and universities, private and state companies involved in the solution of geographical and geoecological problems. The program is aimed at the training of specialists of the highest category, who are ready to carry out in accordance with the acquired specialty professional activities related to the solution of research and production tasks in the field of geography and geoecology; participate as a leader or member of the scientific team in the organization and conduct of theoretical, field, laboratory, experimental and computational research; develop methodology, new methods and technologies of geographical and geoecological research, normative and methodological documents in the field of geographical sciences, educational and methodological documents of higher and secondary vocational education of geographical and geoecological profile, etc.
Degree: Doctor of Philosophy in the educational program "8D05213 - Geography".
The following activities are carried out in the career guidance work of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography:
- graduates of general education schools and organizations of technical and vocational education will be acquainted with the university and the department, as well as a review of specialties;
- explain the advantages and features of the department;
- graduates are provided with internet links of the university and the department (https://enu.kz/, https://fen.en.u.kz/), social networks (@enugumilyov_official);
- Prepared prospectuses and booklets for applicants on specialties 5b060900 - Geography, 5B061000 - Hydrology, 6M060900 - Geography;
- Participation in the organization and holding of the Open Day of the Department of ENU. L.N. Gumilev "Physical and Economic Geography"
- a list of teachers for career guidance in Astana schools was prepared;
To be more precise, our department helps in mutual cooperation with the central schools of the city of Astana, that is, graduates of the school-gymnasium 75, lyceum 76 named after Alikhan Bokeikhan, gymnasium school 77 named after Fariza Ongarsynova, and also annually hold the Open Day for acquaintance with the department.
