Scientific activity

Scientists of the Chemistry department conduct research within the scientific and educational cluster "Chemistry and Earth Sciences". This cluster is formed on the basis of the Departments of Chemistry, Physical and Economic Geography, as well as Management and Engineering in the field of environmental Protection of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS).

Following Scientific schools, institutes and laboratories work on the basis of the Department of Chemistry:

Scientific Laboratory of Quantum and Physical Chemistry – PhD Director, Aldongarov A., scientific supervisor – Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Irgibaeva I.S.;

Research Institute of New Chemical Technologies – Director, PhD Iskakova Zh.B.;

Scientific Laboratory of Chemistry and Problems of Resource Conservation – head, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, prof. Amerkhanova Sh.K.

Research work by teachers and doctoral students is carried out within the framework of International programs and grants, grants of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, initiative topics. According to the results of scientific research over the past 5 years, 320 scientific papers have been published (56 of them in rating publications, including 25 publications in the publications of the Scopus database and Web of Science).

The teaching staff of the department develops fundamental research areas, contributes to the development of its own scientific schools, and also conducts research and applied promising projects. So, the members of the department are managers, and also are in the working groups of projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the number of these projects is increasing every year. Scientific projects are devoted to topical environmental problems, the processing of raw materials and waste, as well as the search and synthesis of new compounds and drugs.

The scientists of the department have implemented the following projects: "Development of a system for increasing oil recovery using polymer agents and reducing the environmental load of the subsoil" (head Dzhakupova Zh.E., Contract No. 132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 of October 11, 2018), "Search for chemicals of plant origin with antimicrobial and antibacterial activity against pathogens brucellosis, pasteurellosis" (head of Baisalova G.Zh., contract No. 132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 dated October 11, 2018), "Development of medicines for the correction of chronic diffuse liver diseases based on individual plant substances" (head Rakhmadieva S.B., Contract No. 132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 dated October 11, 2018), "Assessment of atmospheric precipitation of heavy metals and radionuclides in some regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on analyses of moss biomonitors" (head Omarova N.M., Contract No. 132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 dated October 11, 2018), "Research and development in the field of nuclear physics applications, analytical methods in environmental studies to assess the impact of heavy metals and other highly toxic compounds on the environment" (head Omarova N.M., Contract No. 132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 of October 11, 2018), "Synthesis of biologically active derivatives of the antibiotic roseofungin" (head Iskakova Zh.B., contract No.132, dated March 12, 2018, No. 393 dated October 11, 2018), "Synthesis of biodegradable agrogel based on chitosan with embedded mineral fertilizers" (IRN AP09562834, head of Iskakova Zh.B., year of implementation – 2021).

The implementation of research work is carried out in close cooperation with leading domestic and foreign scientific organizations (Nazarbayev University, Research Institute of New Chemical Technologies, Laboratory of Engineering Profile, Institute of Nuclear Physics, the Institute of Combustion Problems).

Since 2020, the university has introduced the category of "teacher-researcher". Including researcher, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, prof. Sugurbekova G.K., research teacher, PhD Safarov R.Z. work at the Department of Chemistry.

Postdoctoral programs have been launched to attract young people to science and continue research. At the moment, PhD Sumon Reza from Brunei University has been invited to the postdoctoral position at the Research Institute of New Chemical Technologies. According to the program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Zhas Galym", PhD Nurpeisova Dinara Temirbaevna, PhD Tashenov Yerbolat Ordabekovich, Muslimova Indira Bazarbaevna took the postdoctoral position.
