Material and technical base of the Department of General Biology and Genomics
The department has the complex of educational and scientific laboratories that provide laboratory and practical work. The research institute "Cell biology and biotechnology" is functioning with the laboratories of molecular genetics, cell biology, cytology and histology. In the laboratories, students carry out research work, which, according to the results, is published in the materials of regional, national and international conferences. This work is supervised by the scientific supervisors of students. At the department there are scientific schools in the field of molecular genetics, mycology, and immunology. In November 2015 a branch of the department was opened on the basis of the National Center for Biotechnology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Laboratory of cytology and histology (room №142) is equipped with the necessary equipment for performing laboratory studies in cytology and histology. Students learn the methods of sampling, fixation, coloring and other stages of histological work, as well as the ability to work on the apparatus "Microtome" for obtaining dissection sections and the final results of cytological studies.
Laboratory of Cell Biology (room 145) is equipped with instruments and equipment for research in botany, cell biology, molecular biology.
Laboratory of molecular genetics (room 146) is equipped with a bio-photometer, an electrophoretic chamber, a gel-documenting system Mini-Protein, Mega BIO-Print, PCR amplifiers and microscopes (binocular and trinocular). This laboratory develops systems for monitoring and evaluating the expression of DNA repair genes, alien detoxification genes for diagnosis of individual predisposition to multifactorial diseases, which allows developing new approaches to diagnosis and development of effective measures for the prevention of multifactorial diseases.
