Eurasian National University. L.N. Gumilyov's QS World University Rankings from 2020 to 2023 rose from 418 to 277.

The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1992. The first head of the department until 1997 was Suyundikova F.O. In 1997, at the invitation of Professor Erkasov R.Sh., vice-rector for science, Professor Tashenov A.K., who headed the department until 2020, became the head of the department. Currently, the head of the department is a candidate in chemical sciences, acting Associate Professor Kopishev Eldar Ertaevich.

The mission of the faculty, as an educational and scientific department of the university, is to conduct educational and scientific activity – train highly competitive professionals in accordance with international standards; activation of fundamental and applied research in field of biology and biodiversity in Central Kazakhstan.

This Department Faculty implements undergraduate programme:  6B05301 - Аррlied chemistry, 6В05302 - Inorganic Chemistry, 6В05306 -Chemistry of organic substances and polymers; postgraduate programme  7M05306 – Physical chemistry, 7M01512 – Chemistry, 7M05301 - Applied chemistry; doctoral programme 8D05306 - Chemistry

There are 28 people in the department's staff, including 5 doctors of chemical sciences, 22 candidates of chemical sciences and doctors of PhD, 1 non-degree, of which 8 professors, 14 associate professors, 6 senior lecturers.

Among the teachers of the department 1 winner of the state prize, 10 owners of the educational grant "The best teacher of the year", 8 holders of the International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Bolashak".

The Department of Chemistry annually takes part in the ranking of educational programs in chemistry, repeatedly winning prizes. For 2021-2022, 1st place in the Atameken rating, and in 2020-2021, 1st place in the IAAR rating. IAAR accreditation confirms compliance with quality assurance standards in the European Higher Education Area ESG and the World Federation for Medical Education WFME, is registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education EQAR, The European Association for Quality Assurance recognizes it in Higher Education ENQA and the following world accreditation agencies: the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education INQAAHE; the US Council for Higher Education Accreditation CHEA International Quality Group CIQG; the International Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence IREG; Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education CEENQA; the Asia-Pacific Quality Network APQN, the Association of Quality Assurance Agencies in Education of the Islamic World AQAAIW.

The following undergraduate educational programs 6B05306 Chemistry of Organic Substances and Polymers, 6B05301 - Applied Chemistry, 6B05302 Inorganic Chemistry - were accredited for five years by an independent agency for accreditation and rating, Master's programs 7M05306 Physical Chemistry for five years, 7M01512 Chemistry for seven years, doctoral program 8D05306 for seven years. All of the above-accredited EPs are included in the DEQAR register, so our graduates can continue their studies or get a job in Europe, Asia, and America.

One of the components of success is the high publication activity of the teaching staff. Over the past three years, more than 40 articles have been published in journals included in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. More than 12 professors and associate professors of the department have an h-index of more than 3.

The department conducts fundamental and applied research in the following areas: inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, petrochemistry, nanochemistry, the chemistry of macromolecular compounds, the chemistry of natural compounds, and waste-free resource-saving technologies, and green chemistry.  Classes are held in three languages (Russian, Kazakh, English). The incoming academic mobility of students is widely developed, so over the past 2 years, 21 citizens from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Poland have been trained. And according to outgoing mobility, students have studied at the universities of the Republic of Belarus, France, Russia, Japan, Armenia, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Latvia, Finland. Our professors give lectures at the universities of Belgium (Catholic University of Leuven, Leuven), Romania (University of Oradea, Oradea), France (Institute of Agriculture, Lille), Uzbekistan (Bukhara State University (Bukhara), National University of Uzbekistan (Tashkent), Nukus State Pedagogical Institute named after Ajiniyaz (Nukus)).

Classes are conducted not only by the department's teaching staff but also by invited foreign scientists, Doctor of Chemical Sciences. Barashkov N.N. («Micro-Tracers» Inc., Department of R&D, San Francisco, USA), Dr. B.G. Sukhov (A.E. Favorsky Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry, Russia), Dr. M. Shatruk (Florida State University, USA), Ph.D.  Filippov S.K. (University Abo Akademi, Turku, Finland) , Brahim Elouadi (University of La Rochelle, France), Ph.D. Krivchenko V. A. (State University "Dubna", Russia).

Since 2014, according to educational programs 7M05306 - Physical Chemistry, 7M05301 - Applied Chemistry, two-degree education has been implemented jointly with the State University "Dubna".
