Students of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography took part in the IХ International Geographical Tournament

Russian Russian Federation On April 29, Orenburg hosted the IХ International Geographical Tournament dedicated to the anniversary dates – 570 years since the birth of the Spanish navigator of Italian origin Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), who opened the New World (America) to Europeans in 1492, and 340 years since the birth of the Russian navigator of Danish origin, officer of the Russian Navy Vitus Bering (1681-1741), who led the First and Second Kamchatka expeditions.

 Students of the specialty "Geography" of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography of the L. N. Gumilyov ENU took part in this international geographical tournament. The organizers of the tournament were "Orenburg State Pedagogical University", "Orenburg State University", " Institute of the Steppe of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The purpose of the tournament: to deepen the level of professional competence of higher school students, to popularize geographical education among young people; to identify and develop students ' intellectual and creative abilities, interest in complex interdisciplinary constructive geographical research; to ensure integration with the international educational community.

The tournament was attended by teams of students of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after M. Tank (Republic of Belarus, Minsk), the Eurasian National University named after L. N. Gumilyov (Republic of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan), the Bashkir State Pedagogical University named after M. Akmulla (Republic of Bashkortostan, Ufa), the Orenburg State University and the Orenburg State Pedagogical University.

Our team called "Researchers of the Future" was attended by students of 2-4 courses in the specialty "Geography". Team composition: 2nd year RymbaevaRoza, Yusupova Karina 3rd year AmangeldiNazerke, BeksautNurgul, ZhamalbekovaArailym, Madatova Ayana, NurgazyAidos 4th year TemirkhanovTemirlan, MuratovaAinur, SaduakasGulsim. Scientific supervisor: ZhadraFayzoldanovnaTenkebaeva, senior lecturer.

 The tournament included 3 stages and offered participants to perform creative video-media tasks in geography, as well as answers to video questions from well - known geographers. According to the results of the tournament, the jury allocated places. The team of students of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in total scored 105 points, 2nd place.

According to the results of the competition, the team of ENU L. N. Gumilyov was recognized as the most creative team. In this regard, the members of the jury awarded the ENU team an additional prize for the book "Pictures of the Nature of Steppe Eurasia" (3 volumes) as well as a small library of works of the Institute of Steppe of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
