Summer School "CRISPR Gene Editing Technology"

On June 22, 2021, a traditional summer school was held in the form of an online conference Microsoft Teams, organized by the Department of General Biology and Genomics.
Today, the rate of accumulation of genomic information is very high, so textbooks often do not keep up with important conceptual changes in this area. The younger generation of future specialists needs such information. Summer schools on topical problems of modern biology and medicine, which the Department holds annually at the end of the academic year, will help fill these gaps. This time, the Summer School was devoted to the topic "CRISPR gene editing technology", and its goal is to provide a broad and comprehensive assessment of how genetic technologies and genomic research are used in modern medicine.
The faculty of the department, doctoral students, undergraduates and students who showed interest in the issues raised took part in the work of the Summer School.
The school was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Shapekova N.L. and Head of the Department of General Biology and Genomics, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan R.I. Bersimbay. The lecture was delivered by doctoral students of the Department of General Biology and Genomics.

A third-year PhD student of the Department of General Biology and Genomics A.A. Aripova said in her report that the use of CRISPR technology in the diagnosis of COVID-19 is effective and highly specialized. In addition, 1st year PhD students took part in the summer school. These are Kamalova D.K., Khalymbetova A.E. and Osadchaya E.V. In their reports, they spoke in detail about the search, study and creation of new CRISPR systems as a tool for synthetic biology, the problems and prospects of processing the somatic cell genome and methods of genomic and genomic processing: processing the Drosophila genome by the CRISPR-Cas method .

The lectures aroused great interest among the audience. Upon completion of the Summer School, all students were awarded certificates.
