Director of the Institute of Applied Chemistry Suleimen Ye.M. took part in the training seminar of the ISTC

Director of the Institute of Applied Chemistry, candidate of chemical sciences, PhD, Suleimen Ye.M. on a competitive basis, took part in the ISTC training seminar "CBRN Export Control on Dual-Use Materials and Technologies in Central Asia", organized by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) together with the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which was held from 5 to 6 November 2018 in the city of Yerevan, Armenia.

The new phase of the project is based on the findings and assessments carried out in the first and second seminars held in Astana on October 12-13, 2017 and May 24-28, 2018, and aims to expand and deepen discussions on the most effective use of export controls to respond to emerging international issues of security.

In the seminar, participants from ten countries of Central Asia and neighboring regions took part, they are Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The project aims to improve the efficiency of export control systems for dual-use items and technologies in order to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and related materials, equipment and technologies. The project also aims to establish cooperation and exchange of information between members of research communities, the development of specialized courses in educational institutions and support of industrial sectors through the development of a handbook and a glossary on export control issues, the exchange of experience on Internal Regulation Programs, and the presentation of grants for young scientists.

Interaction between research communities and the exchange of experience and best practices between government agencies and interested sectors, informs about the draft program of the seminar and sessions, namely meetings of the working groups by categories: research communities, industries and academia.

The workshop participants joined a small but elected group of government advisers (each group consists of no more than ten people with different experiences) whose task is to quickly develop policy solutions for the government as the crisis grows. During the team sessions, plenary discussions were held, during which each group explained the choice of policy and why certain methods of action were excluded.

Then the groups were reorganized into official working groups: Scientific community, Industry and Scientific sphere. Government representatives participated in all working groups.

Given that each working group was more homogeneous from the point of view of professional experience (whereas the group classes were as diverse as possible), each moderator participated, who enlivened the discussion, using team lessons as a starting point in order to get valuable information related to relevant projects.

Also at the seminar were presented such closer to the profile topics as "Presentation of the Master Course", "Business Networks and Events for Scientists" and "Doctor of Science Degree, General Aspects and Future Decisions".

It should be noted that the inviting party was reimbursed for the whole accommodation and meals transfer, the transfer service, which underlines the interest of the inviting party in cooperation.

Also, to participate in the ISTC program, Ye. M. Suleimen held a meeting and discussed the joint project “Investigation, discovery and derivatization of highly potent antimicrobial and anticancer from the environment of Kazakhstan” with an associate professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology of Yerevan State University, PhD Khovikom Panosyanomi, Dr. David Hayrapetyan, a graduate of Moscow State University, alumni Nazarbayev University.
