Summer field practice on zoology in Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve

Students of the second year of the specialty 5B060700 – Biology, Department of General Biology and Genomics, in the period of June 12 to 18, 2019, had a summer field practice on zoology in the territory of the Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve

Students settled in cozy houses on the cordon of Karazhar, located on the picturesque shore of Lake Sultankeldy.

Every day students got up at dawn and went on a tour of the reserve, where they met many animal species.

The ornithofauna was especially rich. We managed to observe the birds live, their coloring and behavior. On the lakes there were  flamingos, swans, geese, pelicans, various species of ducks, waders, great white egret, cormorants and many other species of birds.

Also some mammals were noticed by the students such as muskrat, traces of saiga and wild boars, badger holes, and two new species for the reserve were photographed - the American mink and Raccoon-like dog!

During the excursions, the students collected various invertebrates, in particular insects, and after dinner they enthusiastically identified the insect species.

As a result of the summer field practice, the students consolidated their knowledge of zoology, got to know the unique nature and fauna of the Korgalzhyn Reserve, collected invertebrate animal collections, and received invaluable experience and many vivid impressions.
